Data Classification Preview Mode

View encrypted sample values alongside data classification results.

Preview mode lets you see sample values of the personal data MineOS finds, shown alongside your data classification results. Seeing real examples helps you confirm that a finding is accurate, for example that a column flagged as phone numbers really holds phone numbers, before you act on it.

How Preview Mode Works

  • It applies to future scans only. Preview mode applies to every scan that runs after you turn it on. Scans that already ran don't get sample values, so enable it before you run the scans you want to review.
  • Sample values are encrypted. MineOS stores the sample values encrypted and protects access to them with a password you set.
  • Sample values are deleted automatically. MineOS deletes the stored sample values 7 days after they are collected.

Setting Up Preview Mode

  1. In MineOS, click your company name in the bottom-left corner of the screen, then click Settings.
  2. Open the Classifications tab and go to the Data Classifier section.
  3. Turn on the Preview mode toggle.
  4. Set a password for viewing sample values.

Important: MineOS can't recover this password. Store it somewhere safe, such as your organization's password manager.

Draft note (remove before publishing)

Add screenshots of the Data Classifier section with the Preview mode toggle and of the password dialog. Verify the menu path against the current UI.

That's it! Preview mode is on, and the next scans you run will include sample values.

Preview Mode and Privacy

Viewing samples of personal data is itself a form of processing. Keeping samples encrypted, password-protected and short-lived supports the data minimization and storage limitation principles in GDPR Article 5(1)(c) and (e), while still giving your team enough evidence to validate classification results.
