Discourse DSR integration

This integration automates privacy requests for Discourse. MineOS looks up the Discourse users that match the requester's email address, then lets you preview, anonymize or copy them.

How It Works

• Preview: before MineOS anonymizes or copies anything, you can preview the users it found for the requester, including the user ID, email address and username.
• Anonymize: Discourse accounts are anonymized rather than removed. MineOS uses Discourse's built-in anonymize function on every user that matches the requester's email address, so this is how deletion requests are handled for Discourse. If no user matches, the task is reported as not found.
• Get a copy: MineOS sends the requester a copy of the Discourse user data found for their email address.

Before You Start

• You need a Discourse admin account that can create API keys.
• MineOS makes its requests as the Discourse system user, so create the key for All Users (or for the system user), not for a single other user.
• When you create the API key, give it these permissions under Users: anonymize, list and show.

Setting Up

Step 1: Create an API key in Discourse

1. In Discourse, click Admin, open the API tab and click New API Key.
2. Enter a description, set the user level as described above, and select the scope that includes the Users permissions above.
3. Click Save and copy the generated key.

Step 2: Connect in MineOS

1. Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for Discourse and click Add.
2. Open the Discourse data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration.
3. Paste the API key into the API key field.
4. In the host field, enter the full URL of your Discourse site, including https:// (for example, https://forum.example.com).
5. Click Test your integration to validate the key.
6. Click Test & Save.

You're done! MineOS has been connected to your Discourse community.

Using the Integration in Requests

To handle requests automatically, add the Discourse integration to the workflows of the privacy rights it should handle, such as deletion or get a copy.
