Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with ServiceNow ITSM
How It Works
MineOS connects to your ServiceNow ITSM instance with a REST API key and scans your tables, including incidents, users, problems, change requests and custom tables, to detect the personal data they contain. You can scan all tables or limit the scan to specific ones.
Note: This integration supports data classification only.
Before You Start
- Make sure you're able to create an API key in ServiceNow.
- [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.
Setting Up
Step 1: Create an API key in ServiceNow
- Check the API Key plugin. Go to All → Admin Center → Application Manager and make sure the API Key and HMAC Authentication plugin (
com.glide.tokenbased_auth) is active. If it isn't, activate it. - Create an inbound authentication profile.
a. Go to All → System Web Services → API Access Policies → Inbound Authentication Profile and click New.
b. Click Create API Key authentication profiles and enter a descriptive name.
c. In the Auth Parameter field, add the Auth Header record forx-sn-apikey. MineOS supports only Auth Header, and usesx-sn-apikeyby default.
d. Click Submit. - Create the REST API access policies. Go to All → System Web Services → API Access Policies → REST API Access Policies and create two policies, each connected to the authentication profile:
- GET access to all of the Table API
- GET access to the Aggregate API
- Create the REST API key.
a. Go to All → System Web Services → API Access Policies → REST API Key and click New.
b. Enter a descriptive name and select a user. The user must have read access to tables and to the Aggregate API.
c. From the form menu, choose Save. ServiceNow generates a token in the Token field; click the lock icon to see it, and copy it.
Step 2: Connect in MineOS
- Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for ServiceNow ITSM and click Add.
- Open the data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration, and mark Scan this source using Data Classifier.
- Enter your API Key and your instance name, taken from your ServiceNow URL:
https://your-instance.service-now.com. - [Optional] Fill in:
- Custom API Key header: the default is
x-sn-apikey. - API Version: v1, v2 or latest. The default is latest.
- Table Allowlist: limits the scan to specific tables. Enter a comma-separated list of exact table names (for example
table1, table2) or a regex (for example^u_cmdb_ci_). Regex uses partial matching, so use^and$for exact names (for example^incident$). Leave it empty to scan all tables.
- Custom API Key header: the default is
- Click Test your integration and check that the green Connected indicator appears.
- Click Test & Save.
You're done! MineOS has been connected to your ServiceNow ITSM instance. Click Start Scan to classify all tables, or only the tables that match your allowlist.
