Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Microsoft OneDrive

How It Works

MineOS connects to your Microsoft 365 tenant and scans the files in your employees' OneDrive accounts to detect the types of personal data they contain.

Note: This article covers data classification. Setting up OneDrive for privacy requests is covered in the Microsoft OneDrive DSR integration article.

OneDrive and SharePoint

OneDrive for Business is built on top of SharePoint: each employee's OneDrive is a private, single-user SharePoint site in your company's tenant. In MineOS, the SharePoint (Tenant) integration covers only your company's shared sites. To scan both shared and personal sites, connect both the SharePoint (Tenant) and OneDrive (Tenant) integrations.

Choose the right connection type

  • Microsoft OneDrive (Tenant): recommended. An app-mode integration: you grant MineOS app-level access to your tenant, so it can scan every user's OneDrive.
  • Microsoft OneDrive: a legacy integration on the path to deprecation. If you use it, switch to OneDrive (Tenant).

Before You Start

  • You need a OneDrive for Business account with administrator permissions.
  • [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.

Setting Up

  1. Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for OneDrive and click Add.
  2. Open the data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration, and choose Microsoft OneDrive (Tenant).
  3. Click Connect and follow the on-screen instructions to authorize MineOS to access your OneDrive account. Select Consent on behalf of your organization, then click Accept.
  4. Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox and click Save.

You're done! MineOS has been connected to your OneDrive.

Note: If you don't have the Consent on behalf of your organization checkbox, or don't select it, MineOS will have limited permissions and won't be able to scan all content.
