Mixpanel data classification integration
Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Mixpanel.
Draft note (remove before publishing)New article: the HubSpot KB had no classification content for Mixpanel. Connection steps come from the HubSpot DSR article "Mixpanel Integration" and the scanned objects from the code. Confirm that all three keys are needed for scanning, and add screenshots.
Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Mixpanel
How It Works
MineOS connects to your Mixpanel project and scans your user profiles to detect the personal data they contain. The integration supports both EU and non-EU Mixpanel accounts.
Note: This article covers data classification. Setting up Mixpanel for privacy requests is covered in the Mixpanel DSR integration article.
Choose the right integration type
Use the Mixpanel integration type. It identifies users by email address and supports data classification. The Mixpanel User ID type is for privacy requests by distinct ID only and doesn't scan for personal data.
Before You Start
- You need an owner or admin account for the Mixpanel project you want to connect.
- [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.
Setting Up
Step 1: Get your Mixpanel keys
MineOS needs three keys:
- Log in to Mixpanel. Click Settings in the top right corner → your name → Data & Privacy.
- Under GDPR API, click Generate to create an API token, and copy the OAuth Token for GDPR APIs.
- In your personal settings, go to Projects and select the project you want to connect.
- Copy the project's Token and API Secret.
Step 2: Connect in MineOS
- Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for Mixpanel and click Add.
- Open the Mixpanel data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration, and choose the Mixpanel integration type.
- Paste the keys into their fields:
- GDPR API OAuth Token
- Project's token
- Project's API secret
- Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox.
- Click Test your integration so MineOS can verify the keys.
- Click Test & Save.
You're done! MineOS has been connected to your Mixpanel project.
