Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Marketo

How It Works

MineOS connects to your Marketo instance through an API-only user and scans your leads and activities to detect the types of personal data they contain. The results are added to the data types of the Marketo data source.

Note: Activities are scanned only if a lead was added in the last 3 years.

Note: This article covers data classification. Setting up Marketo for privacy requests, including the Marketo (Do Not Sell) integration type, is covered in the Marketo DSR integration article. Data classification works the same way with every Marketo integration type.

Before You Start

  • You need a Marketo user with administrative privileges.
  • [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.

Setting Up

Step 1: Create API credentials in Marketo

  1. Log in to Marketo as an admin.
  2. Create a role for the API user: go to Admin → Users & Roles → Roles, click New Role, and choose Access API under Permissions.
  3. Create an API-only user: go to Admin → Users & Roles → Users and click Invite New User. Give the user a descriptive name and an email address (it doesn't need to be valid), click Next, choose the API role, mark the API Only checkbox and click Send.
  4. Create a custom service: go to Admin → LaunchPoint and select New Service. Give it a descriptive name, select Custom from the Service list, select the API-only user you created and click Create.
  5. Click View Details on the new service and copy the Client Id and Client Secret.
  6. Go to Admin → Integration → Web Services. In the REST API section, copy the Endpoint value up to /rest, for example https://your-instance.mktorest.com.

Step 2: Connect in MineOS

  1. Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for Marketo and click Add.
  2. Open the Marketo data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration.
  3. Paste the Client Id, Client Secret and Endpoint address.
  4. Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox.
  5. Click Test & Save.

You're done! MineOS has been connected to your Marketo instance.
