Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with MongoDB
How It Works
MineOS connects to your MongoDB cluster and scans all databases and collections in it to detect the types of personal data stored in your documents.
Note: This article covers data classification. Setting up MongoDB for privacy requests is covered in the MongoDB DSR integration article.
Before You Start
- Have your MongoDB cluster connection string ready, including the database URL, username and password.
- MineOS must be able to reach your cluster. Add the MineOS IPs to the cluster's IP access list (IP & Email Whitelisting), or, if the cluster is on a private network, connect through a VPN tunnel.
- [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.
Setting Up
- Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for MongoDB and click Add.
- Open the MongoDB data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration.
- Enter your MongoDB cluster connection string.
- Fill in the Database Name and Collection Name fields with any database and collection in your cluster. For data classification, they're only used to check that the connection works; every database and collection in the cluster is scanned.
- In the Parameter Name Field, type
na. This field is only used for privacy requests. - Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox.
- Click Test & Save.
You're done! MineOS has been connected to your MongoDB cluster.
Note: If the connection fails, check that the connection string is correct and that the MineOS IPs are in the cluster's IP access list.
