Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Slack

How It Works

MineOS adds the MineOS app for Slack to your workspace and scans your Slack messages to classify the personal data in them.

To scan and classify content across your workspace, the MineOS app needs access to all public channels. It joins each public channel and private group where classification takes place, and appears there as a channel member. This is expected behavior, not suspicious activity:

  • The app doesn't post messages or respond to comments, and takes no disruptive action in channels.
  • Its access is limited strictly to classification.
  • Your messages aren't stored anywhere or shared with anyone.

Note: This integration supports data classification only.

Before You Start

  • Make sure your MineOS plan includes data classification.
  • Make sure you have permission to install apps on Slack.
  • [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.

Setting Up

  1. Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for Slack and click Add.
  2. Open the Slack data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration.
  3. Click Connect and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the authorization.
  4. Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox and click Save.

You're done! Status: Authorized shows that MineOS has been connected to your Slack workspace.
