Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Box

How It Works

MineOS connects to your Box account and scans the files and folders stored there to detect the types of personal data they contain.

Note: This article covers data classification. Setting up Box for privacy requests is covered in the Box DSR integration article.

Before You Start

• Make sure you have enough permissions to allow app integrations in your Box account.
• [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.

Important: To scan content owned by all users in your organization, MineOS uses the enterprise_content scope. A Box admin must request this scope through Box support. Once it's enabled for the user, that user can query content across the entire enterprise, not only the content they have access to. Without it, MineOS can't scan all files and content.

Setting Up

1. Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for Box and click Add.
2. Open the Box data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration.
3. Click Connect and sign in to Box. Grant MineOS the following permissions:
   • Read all files and folders stored in Box
   • Read and write all files and folders stored in Box (used for privacy requests)
   • Admin can make calls on behalf of users
   • Manage app users
   • Manage users
4. Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox and click Save.

You're done! MineOS has been connected to your Box account. A Data Classifier panel now appears on the data source page, where you can start the scan.
