Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Microsoft Teams
How It Works
MineOS connects to Microsoft Teams and scans your conversations and channels to identify and classify the personal data stored in them.
Note: This article covers data classification. Setting up Microsoft Teams for privacy requests is covered in the Microsoft Teams DSR integration article.
Choose the right connection type
MineOS offers three Microsoft Teams integrations. They differ in how much of your Teams data MineOS can see:
| Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Teams (User Delegated) | Microsoft Teams (Tenant) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mode | User | User | App |
| Scope | What the connecting user can see | What the connecting user can see | All conversations, channels and private messages |
| Speed | Standard | Faster, uses Microsoft's native search | Full scan |
| Requires Tenant ID | No | No | Yes |
| Consent checkbox | Yes | Yes | No |
| Resumes automatically after an error | No | No | Yes |
- User mode integrations only see data visible to the user who connected them, so they may miss conversations that user can't access.
- Microsoft Teams (Tenant) is the most comprehensive option. You grant MineOS app-level access to your tenant, so it can scan all conversations, channels and private messages.
Before You Start
- You need a Microsoft Teams Business account with administrator permissions to all relevant channels.
- For the Tenant integration, have your organization's Tenant ID ready.
- [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.
Setting Up
- Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for Microsoft Teams and click Add.
- Open the data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration, and choose the integration type that fits your needs.
- Click Connect and follow the on-screen instructions to authorize MineOS to access your Microsoft Teams account.
- For user-mode integrations, selecting Consent on behalf of your organization lets all users in your organization connect to the integration. It doesn't expand what the integration can see.
- Click Accept.
- Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox and click Save.
You're done! MineOS has been connected to your Microsoft Teams.
