Shopify data classification integration
Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Shopify.
Draft note (remove before publishing)New article: the HubSpot KB had no classification content for Shopify. Connection steps come from the HubSpot DSR article "Shopify Integration" and the scanned objects from the code. The code also has an OAuth-based Shopify integration that supports classification; confirm which connection method to document, whether read-only scopes are enough for scanning, and add screenshots.
Automate data classification by integrating MineOS with Shopify
How It Works
MineOS connects to your Shopify store with an admin API access token and scans your customer records to detect the personal data they contain.
Note: This article covers data classification. Setting up Shopify for privacy requests, including the choice between the Shopify Delete and Shopify Anonymize integration types, is covered in the Shopify DSR integration article. Data classification works the same way with either type.
Before You Start
- You need to be the store owner.
- [Optional] Enable Preview mode to view sample PII values alongside classification results. You must enable Preview mode before running the scan.
Setting Up
Step 1: Create a custom app in Shopify
- From your Shopify admin, go to Apps and click Develop apps.
- Click Allow custom app development, read the information provided, and click Allow custom app development again.
- Click Create app and name it
MineOS. - Open Configure admin API scopes and add:
- Customers:
read_customers(addwrite_customersif you'll also use Shopify for privacy requests) - Orders:
read_orders
- Customers:
- Click Save.
- Open API Credentials and click Install app.
- Reveal the admin API access token and copy it.
Step 2: Connect in MineOS
- Log in to MineOS. On the left sidebar, click Inventory → Data Sources. Click Add Data Source, search for Shopify and click Add.
- Open the Shopify data source → Integrations tab → Request Handling section → select Integration, and choose an integration type.
- Paste the admin API access token.
- Enter your Shopify store URL, for example
https://your-shop.myshopify.com. - Mark the Scan this source using Data Classifier checkbox.
- Click Test your integration, then click Test & Save.
You're done! MineOS has been connected to your Shopify store.
Tip: If the connection fails, check that the API scopes and store URL are correct.
